New Country Bear Jamboree Show Coming in 2024

At the Destination D23 event, the first new overlay to Country Bear Jamboree since 1986 was announced. The update will be an entirely new show featuring classic Disney songs done in a distinctly Nashville style.

Country Bear Jamboree originally was planned for the never-built Disney’s Mineral King Ski Resort. The Country Bears concept was later resurrected for Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The Bears subsequently have had shows in three different parks: Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Tokyo Disneyland.

The attraction has previously been updated with seasonal overlays as the Christmas Special and the Vacation Hoedown. This latest update was actually pitched 19 years ago in 2004, by former Imagineer Ethan Reed. Disney actually intended to go forward with this iteration of the Country Bear Jamboree update in 2018, but it was put on hold once the events of 2020 unfolded. Thankfully, the idea finally broke through and was approved.

The beloved characters of Big Al, Henry, Teddi Barra, and Trixie among other Bears will remain part of the attraction. Liver Lips McGrowl’s name and look were updated to Romeo McGrowl. The new version of the attraction is heavily inspired by the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and the Bears will sing Disney tunes like “The Bare Necessities.” Before this update was announced, there were many competing ideas for how Disney would utilize this prominent piece of real estate in Frontierland. Thankfully, an opening day attraction for Magic Kingdom gets to remain (although with slight changes).

The new version of the Country Bear Jamboree will open in 2024.
